One of the most powerful things we can do is to be ourselves and live our true lives. As a part of the #BeYourself campaign, we want to bring attention to some of the amazing people across the LGBTQ community who shine bright and demonstrate their strength and bravery in telling their stories. Our journeys can be often challenging, but through a challenging journey, there are opportunities to grow and prosper. We are extremely proud that Patrick shares his story below.

Hi, my name is Patrick Shehy.

I was homeless for five years under the streets of Dublin. I am a singer and songwriter. I have my own property now – I came out to all my friends one year ago, but I came out to my family five years ago. They never accepted me because of the fact that I was gay.

That is the reason why I was homeless, but to be honest, it was an experience of a lifetime, and I will never ever forget the people that helped me along my way and those I found solidarity and security and ambition in.
