LGBT Ireland welcomes Orla Howard to the position of Chairperson of the Board.

Orla Howard has served on the LGBT Ireland Board since 2017 and brings with her a wealth of experience both as an activist and a communications consultant. Orla has a broad range of skills, refined in executive positions in Ireland’s media industry, including RTE Television and Radio, Independent Newspapers and Communicorp, before co-founding her own advertising agency, KnowHow Media which was purchased by an international agency in 2005.

A skilled negotiator, Orla trains executives and senior businesspeople in negotiation skills and business conflict situations. Orla regularly delivers negotiation training and engagement programmes in Ireland, UK, and across Europe.

As an LGBTQ+ equality activist Orla has served on the boards of Marriage Equality and the National Lesbian and Gay Federation (NXF) and has brought communications and media skills to many projects and campaigns, including the YES Equality and Together for Yes referendums. Orla holds an MSc in Sustainable Development.

Deirdre Duffy is stepping down from the LGBT Ireland Board, the Board and team at LGBT Ireland would like to express our deepest gratitude to Deirdre for her commitment during her three years as director. Deirdre’s background in campaigning and legal expertise in human rights and equality brought an invaluable lens to LGBT Irelands work and for this we are incredibly grateful. Ends.
