Members of LGBT Ireland’s staff and board attended the launch of the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy 2019-2021 on 28th November. We are excited to see this strategy launched after much anticipation.

The launch was well-attended and included speeches from Minister Zappone, Minister Flanagan, and Minister Stanton.

According to MerrionStreet.ie:

  • The strategy contains over 100 actions that promote inclusion, protect rights and improve the quality of life and wellbeing of LGBTI+ people
  • Funding of almost €1m is available to support equality and LGBTI+ initiatives
  • The strategy was underpinned by a series of thematic public consultations that took place nationwide from November 2018 to February 2019

LGBT Ireland has been very involved with the consultations that have helped form this strategy. LGBT Helpline volunteers also contributed their inputs to the strategy during a consultation at our 2018 National LGBT Helpline Volunteer Training Conference, as well as in regional public consultations in their own areas.

The first progress report is to be published in May 2020. Minister Stanton will be chair of the implementation committee.

We are looking forward to following the implementation of the Inclusion Strategy and are hopeful that the strategy will have a significant impact for the rights and well-being of LGBTI+ people in Ireland.
